I’m back.

I’ve been away from updating this blog in a while but not completely away from dolly world. We moved out of state further west and have pretty much settled in and planted roots. We had rented a house when we first moved and it was very small and I didn’t have a studio. Now I have my own studio. A place I can keep the kids out of so that’s a real treat.

I’ve had a handful of custom Blythes that I did. My most recent are still getting some finishing touches like pull charms. I’m fresh out of pull charms so these two new girls wait for something as simple as that but otherwise I’m really pleased with how they came out.

This girl is quite a stretch for me.

As you can see she has something going on with the left side of her face. I don’t know what her story is. Not sure if she’s had a spell cast against her or if she’s stuck between two worlds. Who knows? But she’s pretty special. She has two sets of hand-painted chips. She’s a translucent factory RBL girl with gorgeous lavender hair. I’ll probably offer her for sale eventually but my fingers have been sticky lately and I just want to enjoy her for now till I’m ready to move on and let her go.

I also did a mohair custom. But I think I’ll be staying away from doing re-roots for a while. I took forever to finish this scalp. I’ve just done so many re-roots in my past that I’m burnt out. All those Momoko re-root commissions from many moons ago really turned me off. The good news is another customizer wants to trade with me where I do a face-up for her and she does a re-root for me! She enjoys them and finds them relaxing so in the future I’ll let someone else do an alpaca re-root for me!

Anyway, this girl is named Estella. She’s a starry eyed girl.. Literally! She has a set of Melly Kay resin chips which I just love on her!

I gave her a set of hand painted chips also.

She will be made available soon! Still getting her pull charm together. I may put her on eBay. Haven’t decided yet but open to enquiries also.

Frankie Freckle Face

This is a new girl I sneaked in some time to work on.  She’s a custom Primadolly Winsome Willow. As her name suggests, her face is covered in freckles.  She doesn’t like to wear make-up but I managed to convince her that some blush and lip gloss would look nice. Of course, it had to be flavored lip gloss.

I gave her this girlie haircut, four new sets of eye-chips and she’s been gaze adjusted, boggled and sleep eyed. Her eyelashes match her hair color.

I’ll probably make her available soon. She’s kind of irresistible. Just deciding on what to dress her in. For some reason I’m thinking Brady Bunch but that’s because Winsome Willow reminds me of Marsha Marsha Marsha when her hair is uncut. She does have that 70’s look about her.

The neverending re-roots

Here is my latest commission I finished. She was a Piccadilly Encore and her owner wanted her to have new hair and new make-up. I gave her a high color palette. Hard to believe she was a PiccaE.

Well, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and I have decided that I won’t be accepting any new commissions for a while. I continue to get further and further behind and put off my own personal projects or I feel guilty when I take time to work on personal projects.

Initially, I kept thinking once I finished with all the commissions, then I could work on my own creations. It seems that I always had some coming in which I’m grateful for. However, as an artist I always want to try new things and explore different possibilities so I have to accept my limitations and there are only so many hours in the day.

I will finish everyone on my list and once those are done I will be closed for any new commissions indefinitely. It makes me a little sad but it’s been long overdue.

I plan to practice more sewing and coming up with designs to dress my future ooak Blythes. Maybe I’ll get back into painting. Maybe I’ll try something completely new. Maybe I’ll be able to write more and keep up with this blog and getting better at photography. Whatever it is, it will be something creative and hopefully open new possibilities.
