Crunch Time

March 12, 2009

Maggie's girl

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted last but I’ve been working on stuff and the latest is a mohair custom I finished for a customer. I’m really pleased with her outcome. Mohair is tricky to work with and gets matted so easily so it takes me a while to detangle it after finishing the rooting. She has a Cool Cat scalp and eye chips and was previously a Prima Dolly Aubrena. I airbrushed her make-up in pinkish tones including some airbrushing on the lips. I must admit she’s pretty dreamy and I wanted to play with her more but her owner didn’t waste any time paying for her so off she went just as soon as she was finished.

I say crunch time because I’m expecting any day now so I had to get as much done as possible before the new living dolly make his entrance. This may keep me away for a while although I hope not and hope to get back to work after some recovery time. In fact, I’m expecting the new set of Prima dollies toward the end of the month so hopefully that will motivate me to get back to work. Or at least provide some much needed doll therapy.

I’ve also had many people ask if I’ll be putting up more episodes of The Chronicles of Judith and my answer is yes, I hope so! Probably slow but definitely plan to continue for as long as my sister writes for it and my husband is willing to do music for it.

But for now I prepare for the new one which will definitly keep me busy. Until then, sianara!

Where have I been?

HH redo

It’s been ages and ages, I know and so much has happened sonce I last post. There was IFDC which was great and I was obsessing about our election here in the U.S. and thankfully my guy won!

I’ve done several customs in between and encourage people to view my flickr to see what I worked on the last few months. I did a few face-ups and am improving there. It makes me what to redo my earlier face-ups now that I’m getting the hang of it. I did redo my Lati Lea and Miel a while back.

I’m back with my obsession of Blythe. My latest girl is the one pictured. She was previously a Hello Harvest. Her hair was dyed this vibrant red and I gave her bangs. I redid her make-up as well and am really happy with the results. I think I’ll add a beauty mark and I’d like to make her an outfit if I can squeeze that in. I’ll probably sell her but I’m enjoying her company for the moment.

I had to close my commission book for the time being until I get caught up on those. One of my more recent ones that was very time consuming was this mohair re-root of Fruit Punch. I also redid her make-up as well. I definetly want to do more mohairs because they have such personality and I love the dyed ones in different fantasy colors. I dyed this batch with tangerine RIT dye. Her owner is happy and she came in time for Halloween. I think her colors are appropiate for that season.

I shall sign off for now and try to post more with my recent works in the coming weeks.

Knee deep

June 17, 2008

can i keep her???

Where to begin? It’s been some time since I’ve updated. I’ve been knee deep in trying to get some dolls ready for IFDC at the end of July. But here’s a recent custom. Another gothy type girl for a customer who desperately wanted her own goth girl after seeing the other 2 I did recently.

My Lati babies finally arrived after 2 months since ordering them and then I added 2 more on top of that so now I have 6 yellows. I think I’ll stop there for now. They’ve restocked too so I could get a Lami but I don’t feel I need her. I’ve reached my saturation point with six so unless I let one go I won’t be getting her anytime soon.

So, after getting the other bebes with Lati’s default make-up I finally decided to redo my Lea. I had originally done her to be similar to the company’s default because that’s what I liked at the time but now after seeing some more face-ups from other artists, I wanted to put my own touch to her. I LOVE the results and I don’t think I’ll ever order a basic doll with make-up now that my skills are improving. Also pictured is my Luts KD Bory who ended up getting repainted as well. Now I’m happy with them and can stop fussing over what I didn’t like before.
New faces

It’s hard to catch the subtlety of Bory’s brows and they look better in person than this picture. I just want to keeping going at it with doing these resin beauties make-up but I unless I redo every doll I have I’m out of dolls to do. I’ll take more pictures of these cuties tomorrow but untill then I must get back to finishing my dolls for the convention.

Till next time!

More meets and Mini Me’s

May 8, 2008

Latina Beauty

I have so much catching up to do and so much is going on. Here is my latest commission for a customer who wanted a “mini me” She’s a latina Blythe and was previously a Cinnamon Girl. I re-rooted her and gave her make-up and eye chips. I really love how this one came out and find my airbrushing is getting better over time. Still got a ways to go before I get more fancy but hopefully not much further.

Last weekend, I went to my first ABJD meet. It was really neat seeing the other dolls and to get closeups of dolls that I was curious about. I really loved the Luts Delf and Kid Delf that attended. I brought my Puki PIpi and many had been curious to see one up close. The Puki’s are pretty popular tinies nowadays. My Twee Twee Spurred some Puki shopping sprees among some collectors. Here’s Twee Twee in a wig I made her. This is my first one and I’ve get to make some more to get the hang of it. It was hard finding the right size for her so I put one together.

Here’s my little Latis posing with a Dollzone bunny. The animal dolls are getting pretty popular as well

So it’s official. I’m now a resin addict and plan to attend more meets in the future.

Ball-jointed Mania

April 12, 2008

008

I’ve had 60 cm resin ball-jointed dolls sitting in work pile for some time. Sooah here was a birthday present from hubby- well more like a gift certificate which I picked out this girl thinking I may be interested in a doll this size. But she sai in a box not made-up and here she finally is finished. I think as far as the resin dolls are concerned I prefer the tinies so I’m adopting this one out. I enjoyed doing her face-up though and am trying to hone my skills in that area. I finally got the tricks and techniques and am very pleased with how she came out. I also redid my DIM Persia head…

SOLD
Again, sitting in the not played with pile so I will also adopt him/her out. I just prefer little dolls and when they get bigger than 11 inches tall, I lose interest. I don’t have the room for dolls this size with little hands wanting to grab and tug so it’s just not practical. They are lovely to look at in pictures so I’ll just enjoy them from that angle.

Working on these dolls was a nice change of pace from re-rooting. I have stuff waiting to be done and will tackle those this weekend. But I have to break it up so as not to get burnt out. Here’s my latest re-root. Just a simple one but less is more sometimes. I also changed her eye color, eyebrow color, added lashes and freckles.

Mom would be proud…

There’s lots to catch up on since it’s been a while since I’ve updated. In between then I completed four customs. One of which is this Rainy Day Parade above. The customer was looking for a melancholy goth girl and RDP is a great base for that with her jet black hair. I also made her dress from the “All Spruced Up” dress pattern at Puchi Collective. It was my first dress with sleeves and a collar. Being the novice sewer that I am I got stuck on the sleeves. I had no idea how to attach them and spent an entire evening trying to figure out how it was supposed to go together. After some trial and error I finally figured it out but went ahead and left the first dress as the practice dress and made another one for this doll. There were some happy accidents along the way and I think I’ll have to make more dresses so I can get the hang of the sleeves and collar. I think mom will be impressed but I won’t let her look at the stitching or anything like that 😉

Again, I obsessed over my Lati face-up and ended up redoing her eye-brows. Now she’s done. I will leaver her alone and focus on making her some more clothes. That and some clothes for 2 more Latis– Lumi and a Cat Coco. They probably won’t arrive till the end of April. Gah, the wait!

the eyebrows are done!

And finally I did a different doll for a re-root. One of the new Dynamite Girls- Aria. She’s been given and razor cut with my new razor cutting tool that was suggested to me by a hairdresser. I loved using it and it was so easy to get this nice look that’s modeled after an Ashlee Simpson hairdo the customer referenced me to.

Have a great weekend!

Meegiko wants a sister

March 11, 2008

So I think I’m going to get her one. I’d like a Lati with less of a frown and am looking at Lumi. And I’m definitely selecting the make-up option so I can just enjoy her when she arrives. I went and touched up Meegiko’s make-up as I found myself obsessing about any perceived imperfections. Oh well. I’m happy with her now… for now…

I made Meegiko some dresses. The same A-line pattern from puchicollective only Lati sized. She’s wearing one of them and I’m getting the hang of the machine. Still going at a painfully slow pace but since these dresses are so small it doesn’t matter. It still gets done fast since there’s only at most a 3 inch line of fabric. I hope to tackle another kind of pattern like the empire dress.

I’m squeezing these little me projects in between re-roots. Here’s my latest, a re-rooted 04NY. The customer wanted an opposite version of Dramatic bride and 04NY is the perfect doll to do that. Imagine Dramatic bride without melanin and this is what you get. She’s a nice fresh cool version. Here she wearing R&D’s Midnight Sparkle dress.
