Ball-jointed Mania

I’ve had 60 cm resin ball-jointed dolls sitting in work pile for some time. Sooah here was a birthday present from hubby- well more like a gift certificate which I picked out this girl thinking I may be interested in a doll this size. But she sai in a box not made-up and here she finally is finished. I think as far as the resin dolls are concerned I prefer the tinies so I’m adopting this one out. I enjoyed doing her face-up though and am trying to hone my skills in that area. I finally got the tricks and techniques and am very pleased with how she came out. I also redid my DIM Persia head…

Again, sitting in the not played with pile so I will also adopt him/her out. I just prefer little dolls and when they get bigger than 11 inches tall, I lose interest. I don’t have the room for dolls this size with little hands wanting to grab and tug so it’s just not practical. They are lovely to look at in pictures so I’ll just enjoy them from that angle.

Working on these dolls was a nice change of pace from re-rooting. I have stuff waiting to be done and will tackle those this weekend. But I have to break it up so as not to get burnt out. Here’s my latest re-root. Just a simple one but less is more sometimes. I also changed her eye color, eyebrow color, added lashes and freckles.

There’s lots to catch up on since it’s been a while since I’ve updated. In between then I completed four customs. One of which is this Rainy Day Parade above. The customer was looking for a melancholy goth girl and RDP is a great base for that with her jet black hair. I also made her dress from the “All Spruced Up” dress pattern at Puchi Collective. It was my first dress with sleeves and a collar. Being the novice sewer that I am I got stuck on the sleeves. I had no idea how to attach them and spent an entire evening trying to figure out how it was supposed to go together. After some trial and error I finally figured it out but went ahead and left the first dress as the practice dress and made another one for this doll. There were some happy accidents along the way and I think I’ll have to make more dresses so I can get the hang of the sleeves and collar. I think mom will be impressed but I won’t let her look at the stitching or anything like that 😉

Again, I obsessed over my Lati face-up and ended up redoing her eye-brows. Now she’s done. I will leaver her alone and focus on making her some more clothes. That and some clothes for 2 more Latis– Lumi and a Cat Coco. They probably won’t arrive till the end of April. Gah, the wait!

the eyebrows are done!

And finally I did a different doll for a re-root. One of the new Dynamite Girls- Aria. She’s been given and razor cut with my new razor cutting tool that was suggested to me by a hairdresser. I loved using it and it was so easy to get this nice look that’s modeled after an Ashlee Simpson hairdo the customer referenced me to.

Have a great weekend!

Meegiko wants a sister

So I think I’m going to get her one. I’d like a Lati with less of a frown and am looking at Lumi. And I’m definitely selecting the make-up option so I can just enjoy her when she arrives. I went and touched up Meegiko’s make-up as I found myself obsessing about any perceived imperfections. Oh well. I’m happy with her now… for now…

I made Meegiko some dresses. The same A-line pattern from puchicollective only Lati sized. She’s wearing one of them and I’m getting the hang of the machine. Still going at a painfully slow pace but since these dresses are so small it doesn’t matter. It still gets done fast since there’s only at most a 3 inch line of fabric. I hope to tackle another kind of pattern like the empire dress.

I’m squeezing these little me projects in between re-roots. Here’s my latest, a re-rooted 04NY. The customer wanted an opposite version of Dramatic bride and 04NY is the perfect doll to do that. Imagine Dramatic bride without melanin and this is what you get. She’s a nice fresh cool version. Here she wearing R&D’s Midnight Sparkle dress.

Meegiko in Simply Kir

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve updated. I’ve been so busy and so much was going on that I don’t know where to begin. I guess I’ll start at the beginning ;-p

My Lati Lea finally arrived. I was tracking her shipment and anxiously awaiting the doorbell. When she arrived, I took her out of her box and she was sweetly swaddled in a yellow terry blanket. I had hinted to my husband that I wanted all her default options but he missed adding the make-up.
Special delivery

Ah well, a completely understandable oversight if you’re unfamiliar with the ball-jointed doll ordering process- which he is. So it was up to me and I quickly completed her look as seen in the first picture. I really wanted her to be ready to play but it’s good practice on my ABJD painting skills and I’m happy with the results. If I get another Lati, which I probably will, I’ll definitely order make-up though because for some reason I prefer my own dolls to be closer to stock or factory finished. I named this cutie Meegiko. These things are sooo cute and fit in the palm of my hand. She’s wearing a Simply Kir hat. She did come with a wig also. I think even my husband is taken with these little ones because they probably remind him of our living little ones. Probably the appeal for me also.

Saturday some fellow Blythesters and I had a meet. We were hoping more people would show but I think most forgot about it. But there were 4 of us and it was fun to visit one of my alma moder colleges. Here’s a group shot of all the plastic, (and resin,) girls.

O.k, you may have noticed the word “boycott” in my title. So now I get on my soapbox about the boycott. EBay is making a bunch of changes starting February 20th. A lot of these changes are very bad for sellers and buyers. Mostly the small sellers. Think of it like Walmart moving into a small town and pushing out the Mom and Pop businesses. You can learn more about the changes here. It’s a good starting point and has a bunch of links to media, videos, articles, charts and graphs and to the policy changes from the eBay itself. You can go to the discussion forums on eBay itself but apparently a lot of censoring is going on.

The boycott starts February 18th and ends on the 25th. I will probably stop using eBay altogether unless they reverse these changes. The boycott means no buying or selling during that week. Please support it by not listing or buying on eBay. Many sellers are migrating to other auction sites. Please patron those. There’s a list here. There’s a lot of buzz going on about this boycott. I don’t think it’s going to be like spitting in the ocean as previous boycotts have been for eBay in the past.

O.k. off my soapbox and back to work.

So I just realized I think I’ve had this blog up for a year now. I can’t believe how time flies. I was reminded of this because of a comment on one of my very first 60cm face-ups. Admittingly not my best work but hey, it was my first one. So here’s my latest one. I had his picture up a few days ago but ended up redoing him and like him better now. Not so washed out looking and very sweet and innocent. I re-worked this wig too so that it would be more boyish. Gave it a haircut and turned it on it’s side. I may still get another wig for him as this one is kind of funky.

So today was quite a happy doll day. I finally got Princess a’ La mode after a few months of buying her. She was waiting on the release of Momoko Slow Smile Traditional. That release was delayed quite a bit so PAM now named Midori was waiting in Japan for a while. I guess you can say it was an early Christmas for me. Such colorful girls. Who knew I’d be drawn to fantasy hair color.

I’ve had this head for a while. It’s a DIM Persia head. I was going to give him a face-up and then sell him but decided to keep him. And while I liked this face-up o.k., I started getting nit picky and next thing I know, I almost started over again. I’ll take pics of that tomorrow. He’s waiting on an outfit from Volk’s because he’s got nothing to wear. I got him a track suit because that’s all I can afford at the moment. Man, the clothes for these type of dolls get expensive!!! But they’re very cool. I’ll definitely go for the more rocker punk look I think. We’ll see what strikes me.

In the Blythe world, I got Retro Mama. I just couldn’t take it anymore and had to get her. I sold some things to pay for her and I’m not sorry I had to let some other dolls go. She is so cool. She has this luminescent skin. Very cool. I’m also waiting on Princess Al a Mode. I actually got her in late October but was waiting on Slow Smile Momoko’s release and expect them in one big package from Crescent. Ichigo Heaven is in there as well so it’ll be quite a dolly bonanza. And that’s it for dolls purchases this year. Honest, I swear… Oh wait, I pre-ordered Follow My Back Momoko. But that’s really it. Anyway, here’s a picture of Meringue, my Mrs. Retro Mama aka MRM.

Picture packed weekend!

So BIG!!!

I thought I’d take a fun break and do some quickie photo shoots. Quickie because I maybe get 10 minutes to take these pictures before a living dolly comes along and knocks down the set-up or wants a snack. So here’s my RDP Angel. I’m taking baby steps in the customizing process with these dolls. I made the mistake of trying to open Velvet Minuet’s head and found it didn’t want to and I ended up doing some damage 😦 So I sent her off to the dolly doctor- Someone who knows all the little ins and outs of Blythe and the slightly different head molds and their individual challenges. So for now I’ll just sand matte and change chips or make-up. I plan to do more as I learn more. I just love the customs I see out there. So many possibilities that I have to learn about this and I’m up for the challenge.

Now here’s Gaz my Sooni Dal. Ain’t she as cute as a button? This series of dolls really remind me of my older daughter. The name Gaz is taken from the animated series Invader Zim. I saw some similarities between Dib’s little sister Gaz and this doll. Although Fiori’s hair matches Gaz hair color which is a purplely color.

Gaz gotta new outfit just for her.

Now on to dolly projects, I just finished and listed an Obitsu Gretel head on eBay last night. I went for the natural fresh face or just woke up and rinsed my face look. Click here or on the picture to view or bid.
