I’m baaacckk…

IFDC 001

I was away for less than 24 hours but it was so much fun to connect with some of the people I talk to online or have heard of. I got to also meet Rudi and David of RnD and David Buttry of Integrity Toys among some other folks. Thanks again to Iveta for inviting me. Next year I’ll have to go for the whole thing. I should have had more dolls ready to sell as I sold both re-roots I made specifically for the trip. These cuties are Iveta’s commissions she had me do. Lovely folklore and Wild Sexy Tune both got a complete transformation with long stunning hair and are looking so good re-styled by Ayukislove. Remember that name because this young man is destined to be the next Jason Wu. He’s only in high school and you should have seen the shoes and bags he made for his dolls. It was like tiny elves were helping him or something. His dolls won first prize for one of the contests for Gothic Theme.

This trip has re-awaken my momoko obsession too. All the beautiful Momokos re-dressed in fabulous outfits and also lots of Misakis too. I had to resist the temptation of getting into Misakis again. I got to reunite with some of my previous re-roots too.

Well, like I said before this is a super busy month in commissions so I probably won’t get much up for eBay auctions or on my sale page but I sure will try.

Just one more post before the trip

Well, I was hoping to get more dolls done for the Vegas trip tomorrow but will just be bringing the 2 re-roots and some custom Blythes. I’m just going for one night so it’ll be a quick trip and then back to more re-rooting. I think I may have upwards of 11 dolls to re-root this month in commissions so it will be a busy month. Busy will keep me from buying, (hopefully…) and that’s a good thing. There’s some Close-Clipped Sheep momokos that I wouldn’t mind adding to my collection- particularly the kimono girls but I’ve over extended my self already with getting the Kenner Blythe so sadly I may have to miss out on them. But who knows, maybe I’ll win loads of money in Vegas. Although I don’t plan on playing any slots as I don’t think we’ll have time to.

And here’s Shannon, my newly beloved vintage Kenner! I have her hair in pigtails and she’s looking so much like my 4 year old. I wonder if grandma will agree. Of course, my living dollies are way cuter than any plastic doll could ever be and they’re the reason for this new found passion.

I’d really love to get more Kenners to restore. It’s so satisfying when they go from looking ill and tarnished to looking fresh and glowing. Holding out hope for the $2 garage sale find but isn’t everyone?

Just a few days till I head to Vegas

I have so much to do before I go and no time to do it! Of course, I was heavily distracted by my latest edition- My vintage Kenner Blythe. More on that in a minute… Here’s my latest commissioned re-root. She’s a Beach Rodeo made out to look similar to SF22 Momoko. The customer was kind enough to send me this gorgeous dress! Isn’t it amazing? People are already asking him if he’s going to make more for sale. Hopefully he does. It came with a bag too. I just love it. It looks so perfect on this doll that it was hard to take her back out of it and pack her away. But she’s destined for big things in the Big Apple.

Now, here’s a before photo of my vintage Kenner.

Poor thing was suffering from jaundice and her eyeballs were pretty dirty and yellowed too. But amazingly, these dolls are incredibly resilient. After tons of sanding and scalping her and opening her head to clean her eyeballs and install a new pull string, she then got some lipstick and rouge and is looking almost as fresh as the day in 1972 when some little girl pulled her out of the box. Hopefully, the little girl wasn’t too frightened by her as this doll didn’t do well in sales back then…

Her hair still needs some serious taming but other than that I just love how she came out and came back to life. A lot of Kenner Blythe collectors talk of the “kenner glow” and I see what they mean. There is a luminous quality to her skin. And I know I’ve said this about other dolls but this one reminds me of my… you guessed it… daughter. The older one to be exact. The younger one is still a baby to me. She’ll probably inspire another dolly addiction of a different kind.
