In a Corner

April 21, 2010

In a corner, originally uploaded by sylviecola(trying to catch up.).

Meet Lucy Limeade. Remember a week or two ago I mentioned the factory or proto-type Blythes that I was expecting? Well here she is. Actually,  it’s just her scalp put on a Simply Lilac bait Blythe I had lying around. I’m deciding what to do with the faceplate she came with. I believe it is Tarts and Tea’s. It looks to be natural and the only one that matched to the pictures.

When my factory girls came they had some flaws with the eye-mech where they weren’t turning properly. I have since fixed the little problems.

The other doll I got was a Ribbonetta Wish Scalp on Urban Cowgirl. The eye lids also are RW’s. I’m deciding what to do with her. I fixed her hair. She didn’t have the bangs cut and not much thatching was in place so I sorted that out. I had to give her bangs because her thatching stops midway because she was meant to have thick bangs.

For now I plan to keep my Amaryllis girl. Normally, I find it difficult to bond with my customs unless their make-up is very light. But with this hair, I just have to enjoy it for a while.

twittering along

January 29, 2010

Well, I’ve joined the twitter bandwagon. Not sure how it works just yet.  Actually, I have an idea but I’m just trying to get the hang of it.  Feel free to follow me if you are in the twitter world.

So much to talk about. I don’t have much time to update, (why am I going on twitter then?) but I’m excited to say my custom dolls made cameos in the February 2010 issue of Haute Doll Magazine. My good friend and avid doll collector Iveta Babiakova wrote an article covering BlytheCon 2009. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend but our friend Maggie joined Iveta and she has several of my customs Blythes and brought them along.

They made the front row in the picture above and you can click on the picture to see which are mine. So that’s a little exciting. There’s another picture where there’s some green haired girls and Maggie’s Apple shows up.  I’m also mentioned on the first page as being the one to get Iveta addicted to Blythe. Good thing they’re not really drugs or I’d be put in the slammer as a pusher. Funny enough that’s Iveta’s official title among her doll friends.

A big congrats to Iveta on the article. It’s very well written and a must read for all the Blythe obsessed so do check it out. I picked my copy up at my local Barnes and Noble.

Lakshmi

Lakshmi, originally uploaded by sylviecoladolls.

This Lakshmi, my Heather Sky. I gave her a new look with carved lips and philtrum and new make-up, lashes, chip ect.
I think she’s a keeper for now. I thought of selling her but she’s so unique.
I was inspired to redo her after giving another HS a re-root in black for a client.
I would like to offer a custom for sale soon. Right now I’m busy with commission work and will squeeze something in between.

Mini G

Another doll from a month or so ago. I did a mini me for a client. She was kind enough to have really cool hair with red streaks in it. Of course, she had that before the concept of her mini me but it sure did make this a fun project!

She was originally a Bow Wow Traditional and I added the red streaks and gave her a new part line to match the owner’s hair.

For an SBL I really do like this girl. I had a BWT but sold her. But that’s o.k. I would have never come up with this concept on my own.

New addition

FA- FRFR MSR hybrid

I’m taking a few moments here to catch up after welcoming a beautiful son into the world 4 weeks ago. When he was sleeping all the time during the day and hubby was home from work and parents were around to keep the other 2 busy, I finished up some unfinished projects.

The girl above is available for sale. She was a Friendly Freckles and got her scalp swapped with Miss Sally Rice. It was then dyed this fresh spring green. I gave her new airbrushed make-up, cool cat chips, lashes, lip carving and this hand made dress by yours truly. However, I’m still a novice sewer so it’s not perfect. But the doll is so cute and fresh. I almost hate to part with her but other dolls are calling.
So, if this spingtime lovely calls out to you visit my website for more info.
Another loose end that was a year and a half in the making was my black Blythe. I finally got a Pure Neemo body for her since it took the paint quite nicely. Pure Neemo can wear many of Blythe’s clothes. She’s already heading to her new owner so she’s not available any more. I made her dress as well.

I love her dark chocolate skin tone. Makes me crave some chocolate now.
So that’s the news in dolly land. Now back to the real world.

Crunch Time

March 12, 2009

Maggie's girl

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted last but I’ve been working on stuff and the latest is a mohair custom I finished for a customer. I’m really pleased with her outcome. Mohair is tricky to work with and gets matted so easily so it takes me a while to detangle it after finishing the rooting. She has a Cool Cat scalp and eye chips and was previously a Prima Dolly Aubrena. I airbrushed her make-up in pinkish tones including some airbrushing on the lips. I must admit she’s pretty dreamy and I wanted to play with her more but her owner didn’t waste any time paying for her so off she went just as soon as she was finished.

I say crunch time because I’m expecting any day now so I had to get as much done as possible before the new living dolly make his entrance. This may keep me away for a while although I hope not and hope to get back to work after some recovery time. In fact, I’m expecting the new set of Prima dollies toward the end of the month so hopefully that will motivate me to get back to work. Or at least provide some much needed doll therapy.

I’ve also had many people ask if I’ll be putting up more episodes of The Chronicles of Judith and my answer is yes, I hope so! Probably slow but definitely plan to continue for as long as my sister writes for it and my husband is willing to do music for it.

But for now I prepare for the new one which will definitly keep me busy. Until then, sianara!

Stock girls

December 28, 2008

Cold day

I’m not sure why but as much as I love to customize I really prefer my own dolls to be pretty close to stock if not completely stock. Above is the new Primadolly Aubrena. She’s really just lovely as is. I don’t have any desire to change her except maybe replace her orange chips. I used to sand matte these dolls as soon as I got them but lately I can’t even do that if they have nice make-up. I don’t think they come as shiny as they used to.

I thought I got her to customize but she’s too perfect. Maybe I’ll have to get another in a few months simply for customizing. Hopefully her price won’t shoot up. She’s not limited and starts for under $100 but she’s selling out at the cheaper places like Hobbylink and Hobby Search. The exchange rates these days are terrible so Yahoo Japan hasn’t been a good option.

Below is a new Kenner. I sold off several dolls and clothes to get her. The seller was patient enough to let me make payments. Plus she was a much better deal than if I went to Evilbay.
She didn’t need much work done to her. Her forehead had a big scrape on it which I sanded away and there’s still some faint little scratches left but not very noticeable. She got some more de-frizzing and her lips were touched up. Her eyeballs were a little yellowed so I whitened those up a bit. I may still apply pearl drops to whiten them some more but I’m pretty happy with her for now. She’s so sweet. A nice companion for Fern my blonde Kenner.

My one SBL

Hello all. I hope everyone is getting ready to have a festive Holiday.  We’ve been busy with getting gifts off and kids being off school. I’m still working on mostly Momoko commissions and sneaking in some Blythe customizing to keep things interesting. Above is a new girl that I tried to hold off getting.  I originally just wanted her for her scalp so I could put it on Miss Sally Rice. She looks really good with other hair and many Blythe collectors have been experimenting with different scalps. And for now, Miss Sally Rice is still reasonably priced.

However, she will probably go the way of Ebony who was the cheapest and least popular of the Primadolly 2’s and became popular as a base doll for customizing. But then she became harder to come by just stock and now is hard to find and expensive.  To think I had an Ebony. Sigh… She was one of my first customs. Ah well.

Anyway, this girl above is Bow Wow Traditional and since she’s an SBL, I intended to break her down for her scalp and use her as a custom base. I’m not too fond of the SBL mold so I usually pass on these dolls. But I really like this girl and now my plans have been dashed for now. I’m just keeping her as is. I wish CWC would make more jet black haired girls. Especially an RBL girl. I would buy several.

Have a wonderful Holiday Season and stay tuned for more episodes of The Chronicles of Judith.

Introducing Judith.

November 18, 2008

Surveying her surroundings

I sold my first Prima dolly Aubrey I earlier this year but then CWC came out with an encore version so I jumped on getting another one at the Prima Dolly introductory price. I finally got around to giving her her own special look and personality. So here’s Judith and she may be starting her own blog chronicling her life in Suburbia as a boarder of a soon to be family of five. As you can see she’s pretty nervous.

Below is a very light custom I did for a dolly friend who always keeps me busy with her huge collection of dolls and ideas. She’s Mod Molly with some added make-up changes. I kept her green eye shadow and airbrushed a fresh yellow on her lids. I also repainted her lips and added more blush. She’s been given new lashes and sleep eyes and boggle. Nothing too dramatic from the original as I think Mod Molly is a great doll to begin with. She already had this hair cut but I went ahead and evened it out and fixed the wonky bangs that, for some reason, always need adjusting on stock Blythes.

She’s borrowing a sweater that my mom knitted. Perhaps I could get mom to knit more of these cardigans in different colors…

Iveta's girl

Well, back to work on the line of Momokos waiting to be madeover for those who wait. But I just had to have a Blythe binge the past week and get it out of my system.

Back to the basics

Girls of Fall

Time flies and then I realize I haven’t updated in a while. I decided to take some pictures so here’s my Momokos of the day. I also took pictures of all my Petwork’s Momokos and will profile each one that I have. I found out through taking these pics that I have 12 of these original beauties. I really do prefer them to the Sekiguchi model and will probably thin that collection a little bit. Of course, many are candidates for customs.

There’s just something about the Petworks and now Close Clipped Sheep dolls that make them so alluring. They’re are definitely better quality as far as the heads go and they just have a clean simplicity and innocence. Sometimes the Sekiguchi dolls look too made-up for my taste.

On the customizing front I’ve got several works in progess and am finding it difficult to get at least one of them completed. The Blythes in particular have been giving me trouble. My black Blythe doesn’t want to hold the special paint on her body so she stays on the back burner untill I can get the paint on the legs just right. I ran out of hair on a custom Hello Harvest that I was re-rooting and then yesterday I was trying to airbrush her make-up and either would screw it up or just when I had it right the paint would get scratched. I ended up having to completely remove my hardwork and start all over again this morning. Finally I was fresh enough to get it right and now she just waits on more hair. I can’t wait to get her done and post pictures. She’s quite the stunner! A customer has already laid claim on her so I don’t get to keep her and it might sting a little to let her go. But hopefully, she’ll be thrilled as that’s the best reward for me.

I finish off with a picture of my DaBi wearing Blythe Closet Fashions. We did a trade and I must say both of us are very satisfied with our trade. YAY!
